World scientists discussed modern problems of pharmacy at the initiative of AMU

The twentieth century can be considered a period of renaissance in the development of pharmacy in Azerbaijan. Because in this century, a unique event has taken place in the field of pharmacy in our country - the foundation of higher education in the field of pharmacy has been laid in Azerbaijan. Rector of the Azerbaijan Medical University, Professor Garay Garaybeyli said this in his speech at the opening ceremony of the V International Scientific Congress on "Modern Problems of Pharmacy".

The rector reminded that the Azerbaijan State Pharmaceutical Institute was established in 1938: “Thus, 80 years have passed since the establishment of higher pharmaceutical education in Azerbaijan. I am proud to note that the first institution for higher pharmaceutical education was established in Azerbaijan compared to the Turkic-speaking republics of the former USSR, as well as neighboring Turkey and Iran, and later became the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Azerbaijan State Medical University due to the war.

Rector, Professor Garay Garaybeyli wished success to the scientific congress dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Medical University and the 80th anniversary of higher pharmaceutical education.

In his speech, Deputy Minister of Health Elsevar Agayev spoke about the development of pharmacy in Azerbaijan over the past century and noted that the jubilee faculty played an important role in this development, in the training of pharmacists.

"If 100 years ago there were only 50 pharmacies in Azerbaijan, now their number has reached 2,900. The number of wholesale enterprises is more than 100. New pharmaceutical companies are also being established. If in 1998 there was only one pharmaceutical company in Azerbaijan, now their number is many times higher. Even companies interested in investing in the production of medicines in Azerbaijan from abroad are becoming more interested.

Deputy Minister of Health E.Agayev noted that today the Ministry of Health controls the quality and effectiveness of medicines from producer to consumer. Work in this direction is constantly being improved. E.Agayev said that the reforms carried out at AMU in recent years will have a positive impact on the future development of pharmaceutical education.

After the opening speeches, the V International Scientific Congress on "Modern Problems of Pharmacy" began its work. All areas of pharmaceutical science, as well as research work on the development of new drugs, as well as problematic issues of interest to practical pharmacy were discussed at the meeting. Dr. Shamansur Sagdullayev, Head of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Ethnopharmacology, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Marseille, France Evelyne Ollivier, University of the Middle East, Cyprus, Director of the Institute of Health Sciences. Dr. K. Hosni Can Basher, Tbilisi State Medical University, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Ana Chincharadze, University of South Florida, Faculty of Pharmacy, Deputy Dean Prof. Dr. Dr. Yashmant Pathak, Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. Haleh Rezaee and other participants made presentations on various topics.

The event was attended by government agencies implementing the policy in the field of pharmacy, representatives of the private sector, researchers, teaching staff and students.
